Fishing Tips For Beginners
One of the best ways to get out on the water with friends and family is to go on a fishing trip. If you’re the owner of a brand-new fishing boat, then you’re probably very excited to go catch your first fish! However, fishing from a boat does take some careful planning to ensure everything goes well. It’s a much different endeavor than fishing on a dock or from shore, that’s for certain!
Pack Your Boat
The first thing you need to do is pack your boat adequately for the trip. Fortunately, fishing boats come with plenty of storage space for all of your supplies so that you can organize everything neatly out of the way. In addition to your tackle, bait and rods, you’ll want to have items like a first-aid kit, needle-nose pliers, a sharp knife, water and food, sunscreen, bug spray, a GPS unit and a laminated map of the area. For fishing in the cold, you should pack waterproof outer layers, thick wool socks and additional layers of clothing.
Use the Right Bait
The type of fish you want to catch will seek out bait that is similar to its normal diet. Live bait is the best option, because it’s much more appealing, but make sure that you handle your bait with clean hands or with gloves on. Fish have a sensitive sense of smell so they’ll be put off by your aroma on the bait.
Dress Accordingly
Next, you should make sure that you’re wearing the proper attire for fishing from a boat. Bear in mind that temperatures out on the open water, especially on the ocean, will be several degrees colder than temperatures on land. This only gets more significant during the fall and winter months, especially as you travel further north. Dressing in layers can help you to stay warm or cool, depending on your needs.
