It’s a good idea to periodically wash your camper, at least once after every trip, to get the dirt off and keep it looking nice and clean. It will also help keep your rig functioning smoothly in the long run, We’ve provided some helpful tips to get you started, but if you’ve any questions, feel free to contact us at Mattas Marine.

Supplies

First of all, you’ll want to decide what kinds of supplies you’ll need to wash your camper. We always recommend doing it by hand. A gentle detergent and brush with a telescoping handle are ideal for getting to those hard-to-reach places without damaging the finish. We recommend consulting your owner’s manual to confirm which types of soap and supplies you should be using for the best result.

Roof Care

As you would for a car, you’ll want to start your wash from the top and work your way down. That way, as grime rolls down the sides, you aren’t dirtying up a spot that you’ve already washed. Unless you have a particularly small camper, you’ll probably need a ladder to reach the roof. Clean the roof in smaller sections so you can wash away the soap suds before they dry on. Give it one more rinse when you’re finished before moving on to the next step.

The Rest of the Camper

The rest of your rig should be washed with roughly the same approach that you used for the roof. Start from the top and work your way down and wash the rig in smaller sections to avoid dried-on soap scum. You’ll also want to use the same supplies you used for the roof.

Detailing

Finally, pay attention to some of the finer parts of your camper. Use an automotive window cleaner for clean, transparent windows with no smudges. Use sealant conditioner to care for all your window, roof, and slide seals, and dry slide lube to keep the bars of your slide-outs properly greased.

When it comes to your wheels, figure out what the rims are made of in order to get the right cleaning agent – probably either aluminum, chrome, enamel, or steel. For added sparkle, you can use tire shine to give your tires a sleek, jet-black finish.

These steps will definitely take a while and you’ll want to set aside plenty of time to finish the whole camper cleaning process. While you are washing your camper, you may notice some damages that need to be repaired before your next big trip.
